Dirty Bunny

My kids both have soft animal toys that they love to death and they could not live without. Allie has Oo-oo-ah-ah, her monkey, and Emmy was what we have always referred to as Bun Buns, which is a little soft pink bunny named after my cousin Courtney's childhood rabbit that used to scratch the tar out of us when we held her. Bun Buns #1 was not so nice but Bun Buns #2 is much more docile.

Emmy does not take a pacifier nor does she suck her thumb. Instead she chews on Bun Buns ears. This has led Bun Buns to become yellow, dirty and usually moist and a bit stinky. Most people refuse to even pick Bun Buns off the floor for me if she drops it, and Allie is down right afraid of it and won't even sit next to it. Sometimes if someone is irritating me I will throw Bun Buns at them as a warning because he is gross and you will likely stop.

Allie has started calling Bun Buns Dirty Bunny which does seem to be more fitting of a name. And before you think we are just super gross and dirty, please note that Dirty Bunny is washed frequently in the hot water cycle when I can sneak him away, but he still remains mighty dirty looking.

Anyway we had a near catastrophe at HEB yesterday when, after buckling Emmy into her carseat to go home, I realized that we had not come out of the store with Bun Buns. I said OH NO really loudly and one of the cart guys came over to make sure we were ok. I understand most would not understand the gravity of losing Dirty Bunny, but I was fairly certain I would never sleep again if he was not recovered.

This wonderful guy went all throughout the store with me, up and down every aisle, looking for the bunny. We were nearing the end of our search and I had a lump in my throat thinking I just lost my baby's most favorite thing in the world. Low and behold just as soon as I was about to give up, we found him placed up on a display. Some poor soul picked up this bunny, perhaps wondering if someone was missing some one very special to them, and then probably threw it on the nearest shelf while recoiled back in disgust. Emily squealed with delight and started chomping on those ears.

Hallelujah Dirty Bunny is back!

And I sent HEB an email telling them how great that kid was that helped me out. I hope he gets a new car or employee of the century because he saved my tail big time.

I know exactly that feeling of thinking you've lost your child's lovey and thinking they will never recover from it! Glad dirty bunny is home safe!
